Innovations
On the award of this contract, O’Brien carried out a full site review for Siemens. This resulted in a bespoke waste solution being implemented to maximise recycling on site and ensure that Siemens operate as efficiently as possible.
We identified waste streams that could be segregated to assist with a reduction in costs. Due to the nature of Siemens operations they produce various grades of waste metals. Due to the industry leading rates O’Brien pays for this waste, Siemens now benefit from an additional income stream. To assist with this operation we provided specialist containers to Siemens.
Siemens’ partners from the USA regularly visit their site, O’Brien understands the importance of site presentation. In conjunction with Siemens we devised clear presentable signage and allocated bays for all waste streams using a colour coded scheme.
As well as providing tool box talks, presentations and regular meetings with all involved, O’Brien have worked with Siemens to create a bespoke waste guide book for all staff and operatives working on their sites to help raise awareness on segregation, container locations and ordering processes for all waste streams.
O’Brien also dismantled large turbine blades for Siemens, which were 191ft x 13ft in size and required photographic evidence from collection to disposal along with the certificate of destruction to fulfil Siemens’ confidentiality requirements.
Achievements
O’Brien has established an overall on-site recycling rate of 80% whilst costs have been continuously reduced since being awarded the contract. In a recent satisfaction survey, we scored 98% for support, service and delivery.
